Granfalloon: I went to the exhibit on comic art at the Jewish Museum in New York last year. The original art for a Thor cover where he fights Ulik (I think was his name– a big Troll creature) was on display. Colletta’s inks were excellent and perfectly suited to the subject matter. He even did some fine white paint lines into the black area. It was professional, tasteful and more time consuming than it had to be to achieve a look of competence. I can ink a bit and like many amateurs I have looked at Colletta and others like him as the ones I could push out to get work in the big leagues. Looking at that cover was a very humbling experience.
